Neuro-ERG General Properties 

Electroretinography (ERG):

  • registration of rod and maximal ERG in dark-adapted eye
  • registration of cone ERG in light-adaptated eye by using white, red, green and blue penlight stimulators
  • local ERG registration by using spot LED stimulators (penlights) with concentrators for diagnostics of central disorders
  • rhythmical ERG registration with arbitrarily set stimulation frequency
  • pattern-ERG registration for the ganglionary cell state assessment
  • on/off ERG registration for study of retina structure response on long stimulus
  • oscillatory potentials registration in light- and dark-adaptated eye

Visual Evoked Potentials (VEP):

  • registration of flash and pattern (checkerboard, vertical/horizontal bars or arbitrarily generated image) visual evoked potentials and “onset”/“offset” stimulation
  • registration of rhythmical (steady-state) visual evoked potentials with arbitrary set stimulation frequency


  • registration of pre-adaptation, dark phase and light response

Neuro-ERG Advantages

Amplifier and Stimulator with Excellent Specifications

Sampling rate of “Neuro-ERG” amplifier — up to 40000 Hz per channel, A/D converter — 16 bit, bandpass — from 0.02 up to 10000 Hz. Maximal brightness of mini-ganzfeld stimulator — 1500±150 cd/m2, brightness control range — from –3 up to 0 log units. Stimulation frequency — from 0.05 up to 100 Hz. The specifications of such level allow receiving high-quality curves.

Set of Unique Electrodes

The set of unique ERG electrodes developed specially with the assistance of leading Russian specialist in vision electrophysiology, main researcher of Moscow Scientific Research Institute of Ophthalmic Diseases (Helmholtz), M.D., A.M. Shamshinova is supplied with the device.

The electrodes are constructed in the form of small “hooks” and “loops”. The electrodes of such shape do not cause the unpleasant feelings in a patient during the checkup and are very convenient for a doctor during the operation. While the “lens-sucker” electrodes which are widely used in clinics, prevent the patient from concentrating on the checkup because of “excessive mobility”. The same thing results in lots of noises, which effect the signal quality.

Moreover, many specialist consider the use of “lens-sucker” electrodes to be improper in some checkups (for example, at local ERG or cone ERG), as the main condition is not fulfilled, that is the test performing in the photopic conditions.

Mini-ganzfeld Stimulator

To perform the main tests (cone ERG, rod ERG, rhythmical ERG, oscillatory potentials), the mini-ganzfeld stimulator manufactured byNeurosoft Ltd. is used. This device does not have analogues in Russian Federation and satisfies completely ISCEV standard requirements.

The compact design of the stimulator provides the convenience for a patient during the checkup and the receiving of high-quality results.

Penlights with Concentrators

To perform such tests as local ERG or cone ERG on color stimuli, the penlights with concentrators (red, blue, green, white) are used.

They are placed on the special holder, and thus it solves the problem of the stimulators fixation near the pupil.

Neuro-ERG Delivery Set

According to safety standards all the computer equipment used with digital EEG system should be connected via isolation transformer.

In 2011, I purchased the first Evidence 3102* from Schreiber&Tholen**, Germany, for my research lab dealing with disease models of peripheral neuropathies, myasthenic syndromes, and of myelopathies in mice and rats. The run-in period was very short because the programs are user-friendly, dependable and adaptable to the special needs in small rodents, the youngest being 8 days old. No EMG machine I ever used before was as powerful as this one. On numerous trips to collaborating labs in the US, Germany and Switzerland I carried this equipment with me. Meanwhile 6 completely established sets are working in most of these collaborating labs. There was no failure ever of the Neurosoft hardware, and in case of minor software problems Schreiber&Tholen provided swift and concise help through the Internet around the globe if needed — again with no precedence in my career in clinical electrophysiology. Even in lab facilities without perfect electromagnetic shielding little if any problems occurred. I highly recommend this equipment to anyone interested in doing clinical neurophysiology in animal models of neurologic disorders
